Since taking over as general manager in January 2022, Kent Hughes has consistently orchestrated at least one major trade every August, transforming what's traditionally a quiet period in the hockey calendar into a strategic moment to reposition the organization.
Nine days later, on August 15, 2023, he flipped Petry to Detroit for Gustav Lindstrom and a 2025 fourth-round pick, this time with Montreal retaining part of Petry's salary.
