Unsurprisingly, Samuel Montembeault has been confirmed as the starting goalie for the season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But we also have more details on how Martin St-Louis plans to use him throughout the season.
The mystery in Montreal has finally been solved.
Independent journalist Priyanta Emrith reported the news on her X account:
This announcement is not trivial, as the Quebec native had a strong training camp and seemed determined to prove he deserves Martin St-Louis' trust right from the start of the season.
Jakub Dobes Will Also Get His Chance with the Montreal Canadiens
According to Priyanta Emrith, Montreal's plan is already well set for the team's second game of the season. With back-to-back games, Jakub Dobes will have the responsibility of guarding the net on Thursday night in Detroit against the Red Wings.
Eric Engels also provided more details on Dobes' usage this season.
"No surprise, Sam Montembeault starts Wed vs. Leafs.
Martin St. Louis said Jakub Dobes will play at least 17 games this season (with 17 b2b situations)
So you can expect Dobes will play the Wings Thursday. - Eric Engels
Personally, I think this is an excellent way to start the season. And it feels so good to be able to say this sentence: there's only one sleep left before the season begins!
