The head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, did something very rare at practice, and the players quickly understood he wasn't joking around.

Last night in Montreal brought another tough loss, an 8-4 setback against the Capitals. Montembeault allowed 3 goals on 10 shots, and Jake Evans later exited after a controversial elbow from Tom Wilson. A night the Canadiens will want to move past quickly.
However, this morning, the Montreal Canadiens players were working on a single forechecking drill. They had been skating at high speed for more than 25 minutes.
For those who have done practices before, forechecking drills are never fun. According to some people, you could hear the players' breathing all the way up in the stands.
Martin St-Louis simply lifted his head and went back to the locker room without saying a word. The players stayed at center ice.
No one expected practice to end like this.
Journalist Anthony Martineau reported that St-Louis said this before leaving:
"'That's it,' said Martin St-Louis as he left the ice, after ONE SINGLE forechecking drill lasting 25 minutes.

He left his players behind, out of breath.

His message was delivered."

A clear message for the Montreal Canadiens players

In my opinion, St-Louis wants the guys to give everything. He wants a team that prepares to win.
He often says he wants players ready to push together, and according to Martineau, he wanted to show that nothing is easy in this league.
The players understood immediately. In an ideal world, this kind of moment can bring a team closer together.
The next game will tell us a lot. The Habs play tomorrow night against the Leafs at 7 p.m., once again at the Bell Centre. Fans want to see that kind of energy on the ice. And the players now know that expectations are higher.
On that note, Suzuki wasn't pleased with the referees last night after they missed Tom Wilson's controversial elbow on Jake Evans. Hopefully Evans is doing alright.
