When a goaltender goes through a rough stretch, everyone sees it.

Samuel Montembeault has gone through a more difficult period recently, and the organization chose a clear option. On December 16, 2025, he was assigned to the Laval Rocket for a conditioning.
While his last few games have been solid, he had been struggling and had not played for the Canadiens since December 9.
You have to remember what he represented not so long ago. Last season, Montembeault played 62 NHL games and recorded 31 wins, with 24 losses and 7 overtime defeats.

Carey Price keeps an eye on Samuel Montembeault

Samuel Montembeault said that Carey Price had sent him a text earlier this season, telling him to keep his spirits up and a positive attitude, regardless of the difficulties.
"Samuel Montembeault said Carey Price texted him earlier this season, told him to keep his head up and his body language positive no matter how tough things get."

What stands out today is Carey Price's role in the background. On September 5, 2025, the Canadiens traded Price to the San Jose Sharks, but the emotional connection does not disappear for all that. We are still talking about a goaltender who played 712 NHL games, with 361 wins and 49 shutouts to his name.
In this context, seeing Price remain present, even from a distance, around the locker room, really captures the imagination. There's no need to show up at the Bell Centre to have an impact on a goaltender's mindset.
And Montembeault is not alone in his day-to-day. The Marco Marciano file often comes up when talking about structure and routine, because the Laval Rocket are part of the plan. The goaltender has also gone through training sessions in Brossard under his supervision, precisely to maintain a stable framework.
In the end, a goaltender is judged as much by his body language as by the scoreboard. When the veterans reach out, it sends a clear message to everyone. The Canadiens want their people to stick together, even when things get rough.
A nice spark of motivation can clearly go a long way. Bravo, Carey!
