Hard news for the Canadiens, and it's the opposite for Patrick Roy

The Canadiens received news that is still hard to swallow, although not surprising. The team is officially eliminated from the playoffs.

Indeed, it's mathematically impossible for them to climb back in the standings, despite their strong finish to the season. While not unexpected, it's still tough for the players to take, and finding motivation will be challenging.

On the other hand, for Patrick Roy and the Islanders, it's the complete opposite. Already in the playoff picture, their three direct rivals in the playoff race all lost Friday night, while they didn't even play.

The Red Wings, Flyers, and Capitals all lost the chance to surpass the Isles.

ISLANDERS - 83 POINTS IN 76 GAMES (IN PLAYOFFS)

PHILADELPHIA - 83 POINTS IN 77 GAMES (IN PLAYOFFS)

WASHINGTON - 82 POINTS IN 76 GAMES (OUT OF PLAYOFFS)

DETROIT - 82 POINTS IN 76 GAMES (OUT OF PLAYOFFS)

Patrick Roy and his team have therefore surpassed the Flyers without even playing, as they have the same number of points in fewer games played.

Let's say that if they win their next game, it will be a strong statement for their participation in the spring dance.
