First of all, I want to start by pointing out that we are in the middle of July, and sometimes there are quieter days in the hockey world. That's why today, I decided to have a bit of fun by proposing a trade that would bring Jason Robertson to the Montreal Canadiens-but I want to know if you're ready to pay a hefty price to acquire the young forward?

At just 25 years old, Jason Robertson already has an impressive total of 168 goals in 374 NHL games.
The 6'3", 207 lb forward is one of the best players from the 2017 draft class, alongside his fellow Stars teammates Miro Heiskanen and Jake Oettinger.
Dallas had three picks in the top 39 of that draft, and they ended up landing Heiskanen at 3rd overall, Oettinger at 26th, and Robertson with the 39th pick. Hard to do better than that!
For several weeks now, Jason Robertson's name has been actively circulating in trade rumors, and if a team decides to acquire the left winger-who will be an RFA at the end of the upcoming season-it will certainly have to pay a high price.
If he is officially traded, his new team will want to quickly reach a deal with him, and he'll be asking for a lot of money.
The biggest issue between Robertson and the Stars is that, with the arrival of Mikko Rantanen and the new long-term deal for Matt Duchene-combined with the contracts of Roope Hintz, Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell, Jake Oettinger, and Wyatt Johnston-there is very little money left on the table to stay under the salary cap.

The price to pay if Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens' management want to acquire Jason Robertson

At the beginning of July, the well-known Pierre LeBrun mentioned that the Dallas Stars would want picks and prospects in return for Jason Robertson.
If that's the case, the Habs have a very specific pick that is worth a true gold mine: their 2026 first-round pick, unprotected.
Considering that Montreal remains a very young team and that nothing is guaranteed for the upcoming season, their unprotected first-round pick is worth a fortune for the 2026 draft, which features Gavin McKenna.
However, if you add Jason Robertson alongside Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Ivan Demidov, Juraj Slafkovsky, Lane Hutson, Noah Dobson, and others, you could reasonably expect the team to clinch a playoff spot again-thus avoiding the lottery.
But wait, Robertson won't only cost a first-round pick. Looking at the Stars' roster and the fact that Mike Matheson only has one season left on his contract-worth $4.875 million annually-I think he could be included in the trade, along with a young player from the organization.

So, here's my proposed trade:

Mike Matheson + Sean Farrell + 2026 first-round pick (unprotected) for Jason Robertson.
It's a steep price, and the risk is huge.
But you're not going to get Jason Robertson for cheap.
Do we make the trade-or forget the idea?
