The end of July is quickly approaching and hockey fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming NHL season. Today, we decided to analyze the Laval Rocket's forwards to determine who has the best chance to surprise and earn a spot with the Montreal Canadiens in 2025-26.
There is an abundance of young talent in the Montreal organization and the future looks very promising.
Of course, the phenomenon
Lane Hutson continues to shine on defense, and after winning the Calder Cup Trophy last year-awarded to the NHL's rookie of the year, we can now count on another quality young defenseman with the arrival of
Noah Dobson.
We must not overlook the excellent
Kaiden Guhle, who is still only 23 years old, and "the sheriff"
Arber Xhekaj, 24 years old, with a very different but very important role. Then there's
Jayden Struble, also 23 years old.
Alex Newhook, 24, wasn't a disappointment in 2024-25, but the hope is that he can reach another level in the upcoming campaign.
Oliver Kapanen, 21, has tremendous potential and is one to watch.
Zachary Bolduc, 22, is coming to Montreal and fans are eagerly awaiting to see him in a Canadiens jersey.
The Laval Rocket forward with the best chance to crack the Montreal Canadiens lineup
In the coming years, several new Canadiens prospects are likely to enter the picture as they try to earn a spot with the big club.
Michael Hage,
Alexander Zharovsky,
Aatos Koivu, and L.J. Mooney are among them.
At first glance,
Joshua Roy seems like the most logical answer. At 21 years old, the native of Saint-Georges-De-Beauce recorded 35 points, including 20 goals, in 47 AHL games last year.
At 23, Sean Farrell has been consistently improving since the start of his career. Every year, he manages to elevate his performance. After recording 20 goals and 44 points in 2024-25, will the left winger continue to surprise?
A fifth-round pick, 130th overall, in the 2022 draft, Jared Davidson is used to working in the shadows and pulling off surprises. At 6' and 183 lbs, the center is a natural scorer and capable of putting up a lot of goals. If Davidson works hard this summer to improve certain aspects of his game, you'll want to keep a close eye on him at the next training camp.
Owen Beck is still only 21 years old and is a heck of a hockey player. The forward has great hockey IQ with excellent on-ice vision. Beck will have his place with the Canadiens, whether at the start of next season or in the near future.
We can also add the name
Florian Xhekaj, and at 6'4" and 195 lbs, he can get physically involved, but also contribute offensively. In 2025-26, it might still be a bit early, as he still has some areas of his game to refine, but he is an excellent young player in the organization.
