Kent Hughes has been very discreet about acquisitions since the beginning of the summer, which is concerning.
The only player who could potentially help the Canadiens in recent acquisitions is Alex Barré-Boulet, and we don't even know if he has what it takes to be an NHL player. That says a lot.
While we thought Hughes would make a significant acquisition, the status quo remains, and the only big difference we'll see this year comes from forward Kirby Dach, who will finally be healthy but was already part of the organization.
3 potential candidates according to TVA Sports
If Hughes has not been able to acquire offensive talent through trades, it is still possible to do so via the free-agent market.
According to TVA Sports, there are three potential candidates who could help the team in the short term.

The list is slim, and it's not a superstar who will be coming to Montreal through the free-agent market.
In my opinion, Hughes must absolutely do everything possible to complete a trade with a promising or established young player, like Martin Necas, Trevor Zegras, or Rutger McGroarty.
Even though young McGroarty has not yet played in the NHL, at least the team would progress by giving experience to a young player, instead of maintaining the status quo, which is not acceptable in my view.
