Anthony Martineau Urges Kent Hughes to Target a Specific Player to Support Ivan Demidov
On Tony Marinaro's podcast, TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martineau brought up an idea that quickly sparked reactions among Montreal Canadiens fans.
He mentioned a potential trade target that Kent Hughes could go after.
And the player in question is none other than Ryan O'Reilly, the veteran from the Nashville Predators.
Martineau and Marinaro had a long discussion about the profile of the Canadian center who could help the Canadiens - and more specifically,
Ivan Demidov.
Ryan O'Reilly, an ideal option according to Anthony Martineau and Tony Marinaro
Tony Marinaro, for his part, didn't mince words.
"He already won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues, he's excellent on faceoffs, and very useful on the penalty kill." - Marinaro
"Ryan O'Reilly has a $4.5 million contract valid for this season and the next. He commands respect with his size, defensive positioning and his exemplary attitude."
According to him, the former Blues captain could perfectly fill the role of second-line center in the short term - until
Michael Hage is ready to break into the Canadiens' lineup.
At 34 years old, O'Reilly remains productive. He recorded 53 points last season while playing a key leadership role in the Predators' locker room.
In my opinion, that would be a very smart addition for Montreal - especially at that price.
"It might be more on the complimentary side. I don't think they're going to have to go out there big fish hunting like Ottawa, for example. I don't think that's the case.
I think this is more of let's find some complimentary pieces that work with some of these young guys." Pagnotta said.
If Kent Hughes decides to make a move, Ryan O'Reilly could truly be the veteran capable of guiding Ivan Demidov and even
Juraj Slafkovsky to the next level.
