Patrik Laine and the Montreal Canadiens have been hit with a major blow as the team confirms that the star forward will be out for several months following surgery.

Very bad news for Habs fans this morning!
According to the team, the Finnish forward underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York yesterday...
We also learned that the operation was performed by Dr. Mark Zoland.
The Canadiens also added that the expected recovery period is three to four months - a tough blow for Laine and the team.
"Forward Patrik Laine underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury. The procedure was performed by Dr. Mark Zoland at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York. Laine's recovery period is estimated to be three to four months."

Patrik Laine out three to four months, a huge blow for the Montreal Canadiens and their power play

At just 27 years old, Laine remained one of the Canadiens' main offensive threats, especially on the power play.
He had been acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets along with a 2026 second-round pick in exchange for Jordan Harris.
Before his injury, he had a slow start to the season and recorded just one assist in five games.
As Patrick Friolet (RDS) wrote, this type of injury requires a long rehabilitation. Not ideal for a player who was trying to have a "bounceback season"!
Kent Hughes opened up on his injury earlier this week saying "It's something completely new"... I guess it really was.
It's worth noting that the Finnish forward declined surgery last year in order to return to play more quickly.
We wish Laine a swift recovery.
More details to come...
