The Canadiens are exploring ways to boost their offensive depth, but according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, no major move is currently planned.

Kent Hughes' goal would instead be to add pieces capable of surrounding Ivan Demidov effectively and helping the young players develop in a more favorable environment.
In the podcast DFO Rundown, Pagnotta explained that the Canadiens are looking for complementary pieces, not high-priced stars.
"With just over $4.4 million in current salary cap space, Canadiens GM Kent Hughes will be exploring the trade market this season and the club may be poised to add to its roster later in the season."

I believe it's a very cautious strategy, but a fairly logical one for a team still in development.
"I think they expect to be in a position to add at some point this season and closer to the trade deadline," Pagnotta said. "You make the playoffs last year, you squeeze in with the final wildcard spot. I think the expectation now is 'let's fight for third, or let's fight for one of the three spots in the Atlantic.' So with the way that they're playing, (if) they keep it up, without a doubt I think that that Kent Hughes is going to look to add to this group." - Pagnotta

The Montreal Canadiens Want to Better Surround Ivan Demidov

"It might be more on the complimentary side. I don't think they're going to have to go out there big fish hunting like Ottawa, for example. I don't think that's the case.

I think this is more of let's find some complimentary pieces that work with some of these young guys." Pagnotta said.

This aligns with the comments made by Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, who believes Kent Hughes will soon need to act to support Demidov.
He reminded everyone that the young Russian must be placed in an offensive environment that allows him to fully express his talent.
"The chemistry is good with Kapanen and Newhook but... it's not enough.

He needs to be given offensive weapons to play with as soon as possible. And if it's not Kirby Dach, then it'll have to be external help." - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
The Canadiens are right to play it safe, but sooner or later, they'll have to surround Demidov with players who can keep up with his speed!
