Kent Hughes' name keeps surfacing in talks about finding a second-line center to support Ivan Demidov and bring stability to the Canadiens' forward lines.
According to Elliotte Friedman, who's always well connected to everything happening in the NHL, the Canadiens' general manager may have a new and very serious option in mind.
It would be Alex Wennberg of the San Jose Sharks.
"One of the guys who I think some teams are looking at...especially with the way San Jose started is Alex Wennberg"

Alex Wennberg, a reliable center who could fill an urgent need in Montreal
At 31 years old, Wennberg represents exactly the type of player the Canadiens could target. He's experienced, defensively responsible, and capable of playing on the top two lines.
Last season, he recorded 35 points in 77 games with the Sharks.
Still according to Friedman, the market for centers remains very limited this year, which increases the value of players like Wennberg.
"There's more teams looking than there are reasonable solutions to your problem." added Friedman.
I think this could be exactly the kind of smart gamble Kent Hughes would like to make.
