The star defenseman of the Boston University Terriers Lane Hutson is set to join the Montreal Canadiens, and it seems more likely than ever that he signed his entry-level contract today.

This announcement comes on the heels of his team's defeat in the Frozen Four semi-final in overtime against the University of Denver. Journalist Elliotte Friedman confirmed the news on X.

Lane Hutson could be called up to bolster the Montreal Canadiens' lineup as early as the weekend or early next week. On Saturday, the Canadiens will face off against the Ottawa Senators. Monday and Tuesday will see a round trip between Montreal and Detroit to close out the team's season, playing two games on back-to-back nights against the Detroit Red Wings.

It appears clear that Lane Hutson will not play on Saturday but will head to Detroit afterward for the scheduled game on Monday night.

In 38 games with Boston University, Lane Hutson scored 15 goals and 49 points. His performances earned him a nomination in the top 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award. However, he did not manage to break into the top 3. Jackson Blake, Macklin Celebrini, and Cutter Gauthier were the ones who made it into the top 3 for the best American college hockey player.
