What Martin St-Louis Told His Key Players Right Before Caufield's Overtime Winner

A sequence that says a lot about Martin St-Louis' style has been circulating since this morning, and it's getting a huge reaction-and rightly so.
As tension peaked during overtime against the Kraken, the Canadiens' coach didn't pull out his board, nor did he raise his voice.
Martin St-Louis lets his players decide during the timeout against the Seattle Kraken
As journalist Eric Engels reported on X, St-Louis asked his three young stars what they thought was the best option coming out of the timeout.
"Speaking with Suzuki and Caufield after the game, they both confirmed St. Louis asked them and Hutson what they thought should be the plan coming out of the timeout in overtime."
- Eric Engels
A special approach, but so representative of the connection he has with his players. He really seems to act like an older brother, not a boss.
Martin St-Louis chose to let his star players speak up rather than directing everything himself.
The result of this approach? Barely 30 seconds later, Lane Hutson delivered a perfect pass to Caufield, who scored the game-winning goal.
I loved one fan's response on social media:
"What an amazing coach. Didn't white board it. Didn't script it. Didn't force his point. Let the players give their input and drive the vision."
- Jordan Gentile
You can even watch the scene on video. St-Louis appears smiling, calm, visibly proud of his trio.
I really think it's a beautiful example of a player's coach.
"Habs fans showing love to Martin St. Louis!"
