Suspension to come for a player following the skills competition? That's exactly what is being called for Nikita Kucherov
Over time, we have come to know the exceptional talent of Nikita Kucherov, who is still one of the best forwards in the league. However, we have also come to know a human being of sometimes poor quality.
His antics in the playoffs speak for themselves. He doesn't hesitate to publicly taunt his opponents and even the fans. In short, he doesn't always present himself in the best light for the NHL.
The All-Star festivities are a promotional event aimed at introducing the sport to many people. It's a weekend that is supposed to be light-hearted and impressive, and it's crucial for the league.
It's not for nothing that players are suspended for a game when they voluntarily decide not to attend. Players have a responsibility to promote the sport.
At the skills competition on Friday night, Nikita Kucherov decided that he was going to show everyone that he doesn't want to be there. He was booed because he didn't put in any effort. In short, he showed up just to avoid suspension.
The former goalie and analyst Patrick Lalime summed up the situation well.
"I saw league representatives [after Kucherov's actions], and they were not very, very happy. It was a lack of respect and a lack of class towards hockey. I feel like he loved it even more; the crowd was booing him, and he took even more time." - Via TVA Sports
What Kucherov did is a total lack of class and a very poor promotion of the sport he lives for. Many fans are demanding that the NHL take action. In plain language, he looked like a fool.
