Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens still have work to do to fine-tune their lineup, and the solution could very well be found with the Anaheim Ducks, in center Mason McTavish.
As the start of the season approaches, the Ducks and the 22-year-old player have yet to reach an agreement, with McTavish still a restricted free agent.
The 3rd overall pick of the 2021 Draft is therefore under the threat of an offer sheet, and that's exactly where the Habs and Hughes could step into the picture.
We all know the second center role is still up for grabs, and while Kirby Dach will have the chance to prove he belongs in that spot, nothing indicates he'll be able to do so.
The McTavish situation is stalling
When it comes to the Ducks and McTavish, both sides reportedly remain very far apart in their negotiations on the terms of a new contract, particularly regarding the total value of the deal.

Will Hughes dare to swing for the fences? If this story drags on, it's entirely possible he will-and he certainly won't be the only one following these developments closely.
Last season, McTavish had the best campaign of his career with 52 points in 76 games, lighting the lamp 22 times.
