Incredible: Patrick Roy received preferential treatment that went unnoticed by the Montreal Canadiens

On Thursday night, the Canadiens had a special visitor at the Bell Centre as Patrick Roy and his Islanders were in town. The Habs completely dominated the first period, but a questionable hit by Brendan Gallagher in the third period allowed the visitors to get back into the game.

Sean Monahan eventually scored in the final moments of the match to secure the victory in regulation.

However, what we want to highlight here is a very special gesture from the Canadiens towards Roy.

Usually, coaches of opposing teams have to walk across the ice to reach the players' bench. In this case, Roy and his assistants didn't have to do that.

"Normally the visiting coaches have to do the perilous walk across the Bell Centre ice to get to the bench. I guess having your name and number hanging from the rafters comes with some privileges."

- Arpon Basu

Basu later mentions that he didn't notice that the video didn't capture the scene, but the Islanders' coaching staff used the Canadiens' alley to get to their bench.

It's very rare to see something like this, maybe even the first time it has happened. It demonstrates the organization's great class towards one of the team's legends.
