Renaud defends his point by mentioning that Dach will be a more significant asset for the Canadiens in the long term, but for this year, the veteran is superior.
Furthermore, he is strong in the face-off circle and very responsible defensively. In short, his contribution to the team is currently superior to that of Dach for this year.
We must admit he has a point. Monahan is somewhat of a hidden gem. He is highly versatile, and if he can remain healthy throughout the year, he will undoubtedly rack up his share of points.
However, what bothers me a little about this statement is the timing. People are still in shock, and already, we have a statement that's causing a reaction.
