A few weeks ago, many journalists claimed that the newcomer, Casey DeSmith, would be traded before the start of the season. However, we are now less than a month away from the first game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the goaltender is still a member of the organization.
During his press conference at the Montreal Canadiens' golf tournament, General Manager Kent Hughes reiterated his desire to trade the 32-year-old netminder, but also admitted that he might find himself in a difficult situation where two contracted goaltenders would be placed on waivers.

Although Kent Hughes promised Casey DeSmith that he would not be sent to the AHL, it seems that things have taken a different turn in recent days. Therefore, the Canadiens might lose two goaltenders just a few days before the start of the season. If that's the case, it is a safe bet that the Canadiens' prospect, Jakub Dobes, will have a prominent role with the Laval Rocket in 2023-2024.
