We have to admit: Brendan Gallagher's contract is a heavy burden for the Canadiens, with three years remaining at a value of $6.5 million per year.

Even though everyone loves him and he is a true warrior, as well as an excellent mentor for the young players, this contract makes you want to trade him immediately.

He is no longer the 30-goal scorer who used to spend his time in front of the opponent's net. Gallagher no longer follows the game as he used to, and his playing style has exposed him to numerous injuries.

Following the trade that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Washington Capitals for Darcy Kuemper, a proposal surfaced, asking if Gallagher would have been traded for Dubois.

On the other hand, Dubois has a contract worth $8.5 million on the cap until 2031. It's hefty for just 40 points last season, but he can rebound.

Gallagher, even though he had a good end to the season and wasn't injured, accumulated 31 points, and the chances of him surpassing that mark are rather low.

Just for the leadership and the remaining time on the contract, I would personally keep Gallagher. Dubois' contract can become valuable if he scores 70 points per year while being robust, but it's a long-term risk.

The fans seem to share this opinion, as 62% responded that they would refuse this trade.
