Former Habs Forward Ryan White's 6-Year-Old Son Battles Cancer, Inspires Millions with Powerful Gesture
Former Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White unfortunately faced every parent's worst nightmare upon learning his son, Gordie, has incurable cancer.
At just 6 years old, this little warrior is a true fighter and has taken an extraordinary action worth highlighting.
Ryan White played within the Canadiens organization from 2008 to 2014 and was a highly appreciated energetic player among fans.
"It was probably the worst thing we could have gotten," Ryan said. "I didn't know anything about DIPG, my wife had never heard of it. When the doctors came in, we both knew it was going to be a tough situation, a tough conversation.
"The options that we got right away weren't any at all. It was radiation and a timeline of how things were going to go south for Gordie. We could eradicate it and hope for some more time, but basically that was it."
Obviously, this news was extremely difficult for Ryan White and his partner, Sarah. The forward, who had just finished a season in the ECHL in 2020-21, is now fully devoted to his family and is a loving dad.
Ryan White's Son Gordie, 6, Battles Cancer and Works Hard to Raise Funds for Research
According to recent information, young Gordie is stable and continues to fight the disease with tremendous courage.
"He does everything. He's interacting with the players. He's on the ice skating. He's in the gym playing soccer."
The young boy works hard to participate in events to raise donations that will go toward research.
In 2024, Gordie presented a $14,000 check to a CancerCare Manitoba doctor to help advance the cause.
In recent months, he even went to cheer on his father at a hockey game.
"For me, the biggest thing I've learned from him is he seems to be a little warrior and he seems to be a little hockey player," White said. "He's a little fighter. He's always having fun and always smiling. Making me laugh. I think that's probably been the biggest thing in all this, he's been a rock for all of us.
"He walks into a room and everyone seems to light up and have fun. So it's been special here the last little bit. Trying to enjoy as much time as we can with him."
"He doesn't give up," Ryan said. "We're not going to give up either."
Our thoughts are strongly with Gordie and we send much love, as well as to Ryan and Sarah.
