'His best game in the NHL': Why Oliver Kapanen's performance in Columbus is turning heads in Montreal

Even though the Canadiens didn't come away with the win last night, Oliver Kapanen was one of the most solid players on the ice.
The game in Columbus seemed to be heading in a very negative direction for the Habs, but something changed as soon as the Montreal Canadiens started pushing in the third period.
In fact, it was one of the Canadiens' best periods of the year and it sent the game to overtime.
After that, overtime was largely controlled by Montreal, with good chances for
Cole Caufield and
Nick Suzuki, but nothing concrete.
Columbus, however, won in the shootout thanks to a goal by
Kirill Marchenko, who already had two assists in the game.
On his end,
Jakub Dobes kept the Habs in the game with 20 saves, even though the defense once again had some difficult moments.
And in the middle of all this, one young player finally had a truly solid night.
Observers talk about Oliver Kapanen after a frustrating loss
After the game, several observers had plenty to say about Kapanen.
"Kapanen's best game in the NHL"
- Michael
On the same topic, Stu Cowan added:
"With seven goals in 18 games Habs rookie Oliver Kapanen is on pace to finish season with 30 goals."
- Stu Cowan
Kapanen scored his seventh goal of the season, while
Lane Hutson and
Josh Anderson also contributed to the Habs' offense.
"The top goal scorer among rookie forwards in the NHL: Oliver Kapanen!"
- NHL
I think Kapanen's performance is really going to draw attention, especially on a team looking for offense.
And honestly, he may have just earned some important points with St-Louis.
The Canadiens now return home to face Washington with a bit more hope despite the loss.
