Leon Draisaitl to Montreal: Major development from his agent
The Canadiens haven't had a major star forward for a long time, with many considering Guy Lafleur as the last great one to play for Montreal.
Of course, players like Vincent Damphousse and Alex Kovalev have played for the team since then, but when talking about the league's best, Lafleur is definitely the last top forward the Canadiens had.
For reference, Lafleur played his last season with Montreal in 1984-85, which means it's been 40 years.
Since the draft hasn't yet brought a superstar forward and top forwards haven't seemed eager to sign with Montreal for a while, the arrival of
Leon Draisaitl would be monumental.
The German is undoubtedly one of the best forwards in the world and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Of course, the Oilers will do everything to keep him, but according to his agent, they need to act quickly and offer him a contract extension by August, otherwise, he will test the free-agent market.
"There's no urgency yet, but either it happens quickly, around the end of August, or it doesn't happen at all. It will also become clear if Edmonton really wants him or not. Leon holds all the cards."
Rumors suggest that the Bruins are favorites to sign him if he becomes a free agent. However, few teams will have as much cap space as Kent Hughes to offer a substantial contract.
