Major announcement by Ivan Demidov and Canadiens fans love it
Now that the Canadiens have selected Ivan Demidov with the 5th overall pick, it's safe to say that the wish of many fans has been granted.
The real question now is when he will come to North America to join the Canadiens.
We know the young prodigy has a one-season contract in the KHL next season, so the possibility of seeing him in the NHL is very slim, if not nonexistent.
His plan is straightforward: to join the Canadiens immediately after the season and start his career in 2025-26.
Ivan Demidov in an interview with TVA Sports: "Do you want to come to Montreal right after your contract?"
His answer: "Yeah"
That deserves clarity!
It's known that Demidov turned down several contract offers in the KHL to join the NHL as soon as possible.
He's eager to play for the Canadiens and proud to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Alex Kovalev, one of his favorite players.
Will he take number 27 like Kovalev? We'll find out in the coming months.
