Nicolas Deslauriers showed class by refusing to drop the gloves in Montreal
He is undoubtedly one of the most formidable enforcers in the
NHL, and he is also a good hockey player, capable of scoring a dozen goals per season.
He did it with
the Montreal Canadiens, and he had some very good moments at the Bell Centre. During his time with
the Flyers on Monday night, Nicolas Deslauriers could have made a lot of enemies, but he chose class.
Indeed, the colossus delivered a strong, solid check to young
Adam Engstrom, which did not sit well with
Lucas Condotta, who immediately dropped the gloves to come to his defense.
Although Nicolas Deslauriers dropped the gloves in that moment, he refused to fight someone weaker than himself, and that is to his credit.
Lucas Condotta is 6'1" and 217 lbs, while Deslauriers is 6'1" and 218 lbs, so normally, a fight could have occurred, but the advantage would have been with Deslauriers, without a doubt.
According to former Canadiens employee
Marc Dumont, Deslauriers may have just saved Condotta's life or career.
I must admit I am very impressed by Nicolas Deslauriers' composure in that sequence. We are talking about a player who never refuses a challenge, but he knows when it's not worth it.
In 60 games last season, Nicolas Deslauriers accumulated 89 penalty minutes, and the season before, he had 136, a career high.
