Picture Becoming Clearer for Exciting Prospect Ivan Demidov Ahead of First Preseason Game
The Montreal Canadiens' training camp is taking a more serious turn as the groups have now been officially separated ahead of the preseason games.
As reported by Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports and later highlighted by Anthony Marcotte, Groups A and B will be used for Monday and Tuesday's matchups against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers.
What stands out is the very clear separation between the main groups and the well-known Group C.
Traditionally, being placed in that last group means the chances of playing in preseason games are very slim.
A Canadiens lineup that confirms the place of a young prospect
In Group A, we find established pillars such as Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Juraj Slafkovsky, as well as the young Ivan Demidov.
For many fans, seeing Demidov placed alongside veterans is a sign that the Canadiens truly want to give him a chance to show what he can do on the top two lines right away.
As Marcotte reminded,
"When you find yourself in Group C, you rarely see the ice in preseason games."
Group C, meanwhile, mostly includes players from affiliates such as Hunter Jones, Laurent Dauphin, and Joseph Dunlap, who will mainly fill gaps during practices.
This likely also confirms the fate of Owen Protz, who seems destined to remain on the affiliate side.
Logic suggests that Monday's lineup against Pittsburgh and Tuesday's against Philadelphia will feature plenty of ice time for Groups A and B.
Personally, I believe this decision will generate a lot of excitement around the upcoming games.
