Who could forget the 2022 NHL Draft? It was held in Montreal, the Canadiens had the first overall pick, and the Shane Wright saga - ring a bell?
Add to that the constant rumors surrounding Pierre-Luc Dubois, who was present at the event, and the two major trades to acquire Kirby Dach. In short, it was a day full of emotions.
It seemed like Wright really disliked the Canadiens for not selecting him first overall, and the disappointment was evident when he was passed over two more times afterward.
His gaze towards the Habs' table spoke volumes when he was drafted by the Kraken, but the young man has turned the page. He has even reached the point of praising Slafkovsky and admitting that he's doing an excellent job.
"Slafkovsky is playing very well right now," conceded Wright in a video conference with TVA Sports. "Over the last month, he has played some very good hockey in Montreal. Obviously, he's where I want to be. I want to produce in the NHL. My time will come, I hope. I have to believe in the plan." - Wright
Wright didn't start his career with a very good reputation, to say the least. However, he seems to have matured, and it's to his advantage. His time will come with the Kraken; he just has to keep working hard.
This season in the AHL, Wright has 32 points, including 18 goals, in 43 games. It's his second season in the pros. For reference, Logan Mailloux, a defenseman in his first season, has 34 points, including 11 goals, in 49 games. Clearly, Wright has work to do. He is capable of more than that.
