Tough decision: Kent Hughes shows two players the door
As Kent Hughes and the Canadiens' management team work tirelessly to prepare for the future and the upcoming season, an announcement has just been made to two CH players.
Indeed, it's never easy to say goodbye to players, especially when they are appreciated by the organization.
With a heavy heart, Kent Hughes confirmed to Tanner Pearson and Kasimir Kaskisuo that they would not be receiving contract extensions.
For Pearson, this is not surprising. The veteran was labeled as a rental player in the Casey DeSmith trade to Vancouver.
The draft pick acquired in the trade was the important part. Pearson nonetheless left a good impression, showing he could still contribute to a team, coming close to retirement just a year ago.
For Kaskisuo, it's a real surprise. His acquisition turned things around in Laval. As soon as he arrived, Jakub Dobes started playing solid hockey, worthy of the best in the AHL.
Very active on social media, Kaskisuo revealed how it went down with Kent Hughes.
«But with the recent signing of Connor Hughes, there were questions about CH's plan for Kaskisuo for the upcoming season.
The goalie made things clear in his latest YouTube video.
The content creator openly admitted: he won't be returning to Laval, even though that was his goal. The Canadiens told him they wanted to go in another direction, and with Hughes' acquisition, it makes sense.» - Marc-Olivier Cook Clearly, the organization didn't want another three-goalie situation.
Kaskisuo plans to stay in North America, and with what he did with the Rocket, there is no doubt he will be able to find a spot with another AHL team.
