Kent Hughes has work to do to improve his team, and that involves trading players who are no longer part of the plan, such as Christian Dvorak.
At $4.45 million for the next year, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent, it's a high price to pay for a center who has only managed 9 points in 30 games this season. Additionally, he is quite injury-prone.
However, a team in need of center players might be interested, and the Winnipeg Jets immediately come to mind.
The Jets are desperately looking for a center but have been hitting dead ends since the opening of the free-agent market.
"Tough day for the Winnipeg Jets, by the way, they tried to extend Sean Monahan, that didn't work, he goes to Columbus, they tried on Henrique...that didn't work, they tried on Lizotte, that didn't work. Chevy's got some lifting to do" - Darren Dreger
Sean Monahan isn't the same type of player as Dvorak, we all agree on that, but Adam Henrique and Blake Lizotte aren't significantly better.
The Jets might be very interested in Dvorak as a last resort. Moreover, the Canadiens are very interested in Rutger McGroarty.
Of course, Kent Hughes would need to offer more, but it could be beneficial for both teams, especially since the Jets would address an immediate need by adding Dvorak.
