Just like many other young players, Joshua Roy arrived at the Montreal Canadiens' training camp with the very real hope of carving out a spot in Martin St-Louis' lineup.

I find that Roy's hard work and his steady progression over the past two years made him a serious candidate for a spot in the bottom-six.

Joshua Roy sees his spot threatened by Joe Veleno, Florian Xhekaj, and Samuel Blais

As HFTV points out, the impact of his direct rivals was immediate and convincing.
"Well..whatever chance Roy had to make the lineup is gone with how well Veleno/Florian/Blais played tonight."
Another observer added:
"Last chance to make the team in my opinion, after that he'll either be a career AHL player with the Rocket, unless he asks for a trade."

For his part, Joe Veleno showed that he could establish himself as a reliable center, Florian Xhekaj once again made his physical presence felt, and Samuel Blais delivered one of his best games in a long time.
Furthermore, another observer summed up the situation:
"When your rivals come out with a big game like that, you can't afford to be quiet."

I don't think this is necessarily the end for him, but it's certainly a tough blow. Opportunities are rare in this league, and it's best to seize every single one of them.
