Since 1996, the Ottawa Senators have played at the Canadian Tire Centre, which is located in the western suburb of Kanata.

It's safe to say the location has been problematic - but a new agreement may soon resolve the issue.
It is well known that the Ottawa Senators' arena is a problem for the organization.
Players find the location very far from the city, and travel is complicated for fans.
The team wanted to relocate, but the process to reach an agreement was very complex.
Some rumors even suggested a possible move to Quebec City if the Senators could not find a new location.

The Senators Sign a New Agreement for a New Arena

The National Capital Commission (NCC) and Capital Sports Development Inc. (CSDI) have announced a purchase and sale agreement for land totaling 11 acres located at LeBreton Flats.
"This agreement marks a key step in creating a major event center and an arena district, including a mixed-use development, at LeBreton Flats."
"We are pleased to reach an agreement of purchase and sale with the NCC to take the next step in this process. There are still many more hurdles to clear and we look forward to working with the NCC and other stakeholders to achieve our shared vision of creating an event centre at LeBreton Flats that can be enjoyed by our Ottawa-Gatineau community." - Senators President & CEO Cyril Leeder
Several similar projects for the team have fallen through in recent years, but this agreement could mark a new era for the franchise.
It is known that majority owner Michael Andlauer had stated the Sens would play at least five more years at the Canadian Tire Centre.
Plans could change quickly with this project.
Finally, this is excellent news for the Senators, and there is hope the team will remain in a Canadian city.
