Jesperi Kotkaniemi was never unanimously supported during his time with the Montreal Canadiens.
Unfortunately he is also going through some rather difficult times with the Carolina Hurricanes. The forward is now learning some good news in his life, as his father, Mikael Kotkaniemi, has just found a job in the NHL.
In 2018, Marc Bergevin, Trevor Timmins, and the Montreal Canadiens management selected Jesperi Kotkaniemi in the 1st round, 3rd overall, during the NHL Draft.
The forward heard his name after Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres and Andrei Svechnikov of the Carolina Hurricanes. The Tricolore turned to the Finn, ahead of Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa Senators and Barrett Hayton of the Utah Mammoth.
A year later, Bergevin decided to take a big swing by submitting an offer sheet to Sebastian Aho. The latter had accepted the deal with Montreal, but the Hurricanes quickly decided to match it in order to keep Aho.
However, this attempt was far from being without consequences and, even today, the Carolina organization enjoys throwing darts in the Canadiens' direction, even going so far as to imitate the logo in their recent merchandise.
Rod Brind'Amour's organization enjoys throwing darts at the Tricolore, but it also made a dreadful decision.
In 2021, they decided to submit a hostile offer of $6.1 million for some reason to Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and the latter accepted. Then, Marc Bergevin decided to let his forward go.
After that, KK signed another contract, lasting eight years, which pays him $4,820,000 annually.
The center is now 25 years old and has just come off seasons of 27 and 33 points. Rumors about him are numerous and management is dissatisfied with his performances.

At 56 years old, Mikael Kotkaniemi also played several seasons in the SM-liiga, from 1990 to 1999. The former forward has good experience in the world of hockey, and we wish him the best of luck with this new challenge!
