Nick Suzuki's Brother Ryan Signs New NHL Deal as Future Hangs in the Balance
At 24 years old, time is starting to run out for Nick Suzuki's brother, Ryan Suzuki, if he wants to earn a regular spot in the NHL. In recent hours, the young man made a big announcement official, as he secured a new contract.
On June 21, 2019, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Ryan Suzuki experienced one of the biggest days of his life when he was selected in the 1st round, 28th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL Draft.
A dream come true for the young man, two years after watching his brother Nick get drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights, 13th overall in the 2017 class.
Unfortunately for Ryan Suzuki, things took a very different turn compared to his brother. While Nick Suzuki is now the captain of the Montreal Canadiens and a key piece of the team's offense, Ryan has struggled to find his place in the big league.
After suffering serious injuries toward the end of his junior career in the OHL, he joined the Chicago Wolves in the AHL but missed a lot of games again, which significantly impacted his development.
Standing at 6'1" and 196 lbs, the center had a fantastic 2024-25 season with the Wolves, recording 12 goals and 59 points in 69 games. For one of the rare times since 2019, Ryan Suzuki seems comfortable on the ice, and there's hope he can now stay healthy.
Ryan Suzuki Finally Signs a New Contract With the Carolina Hurricanes
The deal is for just one season, and he will earn $775,000 if he makes the NHL roster. Otherwise, he will earn a salary of $130,000 in the AHL.
The upcoming training camp will be extremely important for him, and there is sincere hope that he can finally secure a spot in the NHL.
