According to Basu, the reality is simple. Crosby still wants to win, and several teams like Dallas, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Florida, or Colorado could offer him an immediate shot at winning. But those teams don't necessarily have the resources needed to convince the Penguins to part with Crosby.

The Canadiens, on the other hand, have a stockpile of first-round picks in the coming years, quality prospects, and young players ready to contribute right now.

This is one of the main reasons why Basu believes the Habs could not only pay the price but also appeal to Crosby himself.
