Kent Hughes now has a golden opportunity to sign a Hometown forward to help the Canadiens with Brandon Gignac
When you hear the name Brandon Gignac, does it ring a bell? The forward for the Laval Rocket is performing very well, and there have been suggestions for weeks that he should be called up by the Habs.
The significant issue is that Gignac doesn't have a two-way contract involving the NHL. Without an agreement signed with Kent Hughes, he cannot join the Canadiens.
We know that the NHL contract limit is 50 per team, but with the termination of Nicolas Beaudin's deal yesterday, the timing is just right to sign Gignac and give him a chance in the best league in the world.

For AHL forwards, it's often said they're ready when they have statistics close to a point per game. Gignac has 37 points in 40 games.
At 26 years old, the Repentigny native thoroughly deserves a chance to join the Habs. Anyway, with the season he's having, he will undoubtedly get a two-way contract next year, and if Kent Hughes does nothing, he will lose him, as was the case with Anthony Richard and Alex Belzile.
