Over the past few days, the former scout of the Montreal Canadiens, Grant McCagg, reported major news regarding the Canadiens' prospect, Mattias Norlinder. Indeed, according to his sources, the 23-year-old defenseman decided to leave the organization, despite his last year of contract, to return to play in Sweden this season.

However, the rumor was refuted today by Norlinder's agent, Claes Elefalk, stating that he would indeed be at the Canadiens' training camp in the coming weeks. He went on to say that the Swede was very much looking forward to returning to Montreal at the beginning of September.

Mattias and I don't know where this false rumor comes from, he mentioned in an email to TVASports.ca. Mattie is eagerly looking forward to joining the Canadiens at the next training camp. He plans to fly out in early September. - Claes Elefalk

While Norlinder was never able to live up to the high expectations placed on him, it is excellent news to see that the Canadiens' prospects can rely on the experience of the 64th overall pick in 2019, as he enters his third season in the Laval Rocket uniform.

Once considered one of the most promising young players in the organization, Norlinder had some difficulty adapting to the North American style of play, gathering only 2 goals and 17 assists (19 points) in 67 games in the AHL in 2022-2023.

In the last year of his three-year contract, the young defenseman will absolutely have to seize this opportunity if he hopes to get a new deal next summer. This may be his last chance to prove to the leadership of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge that he has intriguing potential and that he could make the jump to the NHL soon.
