An intriguing development has just emerged regarding Montreal Canadiens prospect, Owen Beck. Indeed, the 19-year-old center has been invited to participate in virtual meetings organized by the Canadian team in preparation for the 2024 World Junior Championship.
It is a well-deserved honor for the Peterborough Petes forward who had an outstanding season last year, scoring 24 goals and 42 assists (66 points) in 60 OHL games. He notably played his first NHL game with the Montreal Canadiens on January 28 of last year, at only 18 years old.
Having been one of the last players cut by Hockey Canada, Beck was recalled following an injury to Colton Dach, amassing one assist in three games. There is no doubt that the Canadiens prospect will have a much larger role this season and could even play within the top three lines in the upcoming tournament.
As for Cédric Guindon, the 4th round pick in 2022 will be experiencing his first stint with the national team. The 19-year-old forward did very well with the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL, registering a total of 22 goals and 47 assists (69 points) in 68 games. He also recorded 5 points in four playoff games.
Currently, eleven players from the QMJHL are part of Team Canada's plans for the upcoming World Junior Championship: Mathis Rousseau (Halifax), Pier-Olivier Roy (Victoriaville), Jake Furlong (Halifax), Maveric Lamoureux (Drumondville), Tristan Luneau (Gatineau), Noah Warren (Victoriaville), Jordan Dumais (Halifax), Jonathan Fauchon (Blainville-Boisbriand), Ethan Gauthier (Drummondville), Samuel Savoie (Gatineau), and Markus Vidicek (Halifax).
