With precise passes, inspired plays, and a spectacular goal, he reminded everyone why his arrival in Montreal caused such a stir last spring.
Amy Martin Makes History by Officiating at the Bell Centre
Beyond the on-ice exploits, another remarkable story was unfolding during the game.
For the first time at the Bell Centre, a referee from the PWHL, Amy Martin, officiated a rookie game between the Canadiens and the Jets.
Her name is well known on the international scene, having participated in several IIHF tournaments and frequently appearing in the PWHL.
As TSN journalist Kenzie Lalonde pointed out:
"We often see the Manitoban on the international women's stage and in the PWHL."
Meanwhile, Jared Book noted that
"In addition to former Canadiens prospect Hayden Verbeek, PWHL referee Amy Martin is the other referee for tonight's Winnipeg-Montreal game. She has also taken part in several IIHF tournaments."
This was a very good initiative by the NHL and the Canadiens.
For the fans at the game or watching on TV, it was a special moment.
Personally, I truly believe it's about time we see more of this kind of presence, and not just during rookie games.
