Rumors surrounding the Montreal Canadiens are always plentiful, and Kent Hughes remains active in his trade market discussions.

However, one particular factor is reportedly delaying the acquisition of a second-line center for the Montreal organization.
Since arriving with the Canadiens in January 2022, Kent Hughes has made several moves and multiplied his successful deals.
The acquisition of Sean Monahan along with a first-round pick - which was eventually used in the trade that brought Noah Dobson to Montreal - was a true masterstroke, especially since he never gave anything back to the Calgary Flames in return.
In addition, don't forget that Hughes later re-traded Monahan, sending him to the Winnipeg Jets.
As a result, he acquired another first-round pick in 2024, which allowed him to secure Michael Hage. There was also a conditional third-round pick in 2027, but for Montreal to receive it, Winnipeg would have had to win the Stanley Cup. In the end, it was Sean Monahan, Emil Heineman, and picks in exchange for Noah Dobson and Michael Hage.
This summer, the Canadiens also brought in Zachary Bolduc, and the arrival of the 22-year-old forward - who tallied 22 goals and 36 points in 72 games last season - has greatly pleased fans.

The Trade of Carey Price's Contract Could Delay the Acquisition of a Second-Line Center for the Montreal Canadiens

According to the excellent Marco D'Amico, a potential trade involving Carey Price's contract could pave the way for another move afterward.
"Back from vacay and made some calls.

The trade market is pretty dormant for the Habs, but moving Carey Price's contract in September is expected to open up the Canadiens to potentially making another move.

The clear message: No lateral moves"
If this information proves true, Kent Hughes still has plenty of work to do in the coming weeks.
All signs point to Price's contract leaving the Montreal organization after paying his bonus in September. This would mean one trade involving Price, and another for the acquisition of a second-line center.
