Kent Hughes wants to add offense to the Canadiens, but he also has some bad contracts that are, in a way, holding the team back.

We're thinking mainly of Josh Anderson and Brendan Gallagher. If he hadn't had a strong end to the season, we could also include Joel Armia.
Brendan Gallagher is still useful to the Canadiens due to his leadership and work ethic. Moreover, he also had a very good end to the season.
The only problem is his huge contract of $6.5 million per year. If he were paid half that, no one would want to trade him.
For Anderson, it's more complicated. We're increasingly realizing that he can't adjust to the team's identity. He excels in north-south play, but has no finesse and lacks finishing.
We saw this season that he had excellent scoring chances but couldn't capitalize on them. He scored 9 goals this season, which is too few for his salary. Remember, he has three seasons left at $5.5 million.
The reality is that his contract is painful, and to trade him, we'll have to accept a painful contract in return. This is where Patrik Laine's name comes into play.
The Finnish player had a good start to his career, but it drastically worsened last season. He has two seasons left at $8.7 million, which is enormous.
Would the Blue Jackets accept trading Laine for Anderson? Remember that Pierre-Luc Dubois was practically given to the Capitals, setting the tone for this type of transaction.
The Kings no longer wanted his bad contract, and the Caps no longer wanted Darcy Kuemper's bad contract.
If the Canadiens really want to trade Josh Anderson for Patrik Laine, they might have to add a draft pick, but it won't be a big transaction.
And you, would you accept this trade?
