Kent Hughes is at risk of losing five players in the coming days
Kent Hughes will have important decisions to make in the coming days, decisions that will shape the future of the Canadiens.
Each year, prospects from previous drafts who do not receive a contract offer and whose rights expire at the beginning of June become free agents.
This depends on the league or region they come from:
- CHL - 2 years and they can re-enter the draft.
- NCAA - 4 years and become free agents.
- Europe - 4 years and become free agents.
- Russia - Indefinite
Due to the 50-contract limit in the NHL, general managers have no choice but to let some players go.
This year, the Canadiens have five prospects whose rights are expiring. Kent Hughes must decide whether to sign them or let them go.
Blake Biondi (21 years old) 4th round pick in 2020
Jared Davidson (21 years old) 5th round pick in 2022
Cedrick Guindon (19 years old) 4th round pick in 2022
Petteri Nurmi (21 years old) 7th round pick in 2022
Miguel Tourigny (21 years old) 7th round pick in 2022
Of these prospects, only Jared Davidson is expected to receive a contract offer, according to Marco D'Amico.
Miguel Tourigny turned heads at camp last year, but the surplus of defensemen will make it difficult for him to secure a spot.
