Montreal Canadiens Risk Losing a Promising Player Ahead of Season
The Montreal Canadiens surprised many fans this Sunday by placing talented forward Samuel Blais on waivers.
The Canadiens have wrapped up training camp and
confirmed several roster moves, including placing Samuel Blais on waivers. Blais, who has been one of the most consistent players during camp, could now be claimed by another NHL team-a scenario that, unfortunately, seems quite likely.
According to journalist Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, this decision is linked to Martin St. Louis' choice to start the season with only 13 forwards. A fairly risky strategy, in my opinion, especially considering how well Blais has impressed.
A bit surprised that Samuel Blais is being placed on waivers since they could have kept him up. But Martin St-Louis said he preferred to roll with 13 forwards.
Kaapo Kahkonen is also being placed on waivers. Hopefully, both won't be claimed.
Owen Beck,
Florian Xhekaj, and
Adam Engstrom are also heading to Laval, no surprise there.
Joe Veleno and
Oliver Kapanen are staying up.

Anthony Martineau from TVA Sports also reacted to the news, highlighting how much Blais impressed during the last preseason game.
"Samuel Blais was probably the best player on the CH yesterday.
I wish him the best.
An honest player and a good person.
One can only hope that he can remain with the organization."
- Anthony Martineau
I personally believe the Canadiens are taking a big risk here. A player like Blais, with his intensity and experience, could easily attract the attention of a team looking for offensive depth.
Losing Samuel Blais for free would be a hard blow for the Habs, especially after a camp where he gave everything.
I really hope he ends up in Laval because I believe he could play a key role with the Canadiens this season.
