Major development in the Patrik Laine and Montreal Canadiens situation

Several names have surfaced in recent weeks for the Montreal Canadiens as Kent Hughes tries to improve the team's offense, and Patrik Laine is among them.
Indeed, the Finnish player has requested a trade to leave Columbus, but his current value is considered negative due to his contract and current state.
Laine is still part of the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, and from what I understand, he cannot speak with teams at this time.
«GM Don Waddell said Patrik Laine remains in NHL/NHLPA players' assistance program, but expects docs to clear him "soon."
"Teams that have talked about (a trade), they want to talk with him if they're going to make a move."
#NHL clubs can only talk to Laine if he's cleared.» - Comments from Don Waddell reported by Columbus journalist Aaron Portzline
Obviously, no one has confirmed Kent Hughes' interest in Laine, but if he truly is interested, he will clearly have to wait before concluding anything.
This transaction might have to wait. Even though Waddell mentions that Laine will leave the Program in the coming days, nothing guarantees it, and nothing ensures he is truly worth his $8.7 million per year contract.
This is a developing story, but don't be surprised if the Finn isn't traded before the draft.
