Renaud Lavoie Reports Canadiens Have Fresh Competition in Race for Sidney Crosby
Alexander Barkov's injury changes a lot in Florida, and now, according to Renaud Lavoie, the Montreal Canadiens must deal with a new major rival in the race to land Sidney Crosby.
In his column for TVA Sports, Lavoie explained that Barkov's absence could force the Panthers to consider a replacement for him, and Crosby would be the perfect candidate.
I must admit I smiled when I heard that. Crosby would probably be a perfect addition to any team in the league.
Barkov's Injury Opens the Door to Crosby Rumors and Complicates Canadiens' Plan
For a team still aiming for the Stanley Cup like the Panthers, losing their captain creates a difficult void to fill.
"The Canadiens now officially have a new competitor to acquire a quality center player." - Renaud Lavoie
This changes the game for general manager Kent Hughes, who is certainly already active in his search to solidify the second-line center on his roster.
I therefore think that if the Panthers become serious in this matter, it significantly complicates the Canadiens' chances of positioning themselves.
Everything will depend on decisions in Pittsburgh and Hughes' strategy.
The dream of seeing Crosby in a Canadiens uniform is not dead, but it's certain that this saga is far from over.
