The Canadiens' Search for a Second-Line Center Could Come at the Cost of a Young Defenseman
The Montreal Canadiens faced the Detroit Red Wings in their 2nd game of the season, and the Habs came out victorious with a score of 5 to 1.
In this great win, all four offensive lines as well as the defensive pairs performed well.
Also noteworthy were
Oliver Kapanen's 2nd goal in 2 nights and
Zachary Bolduc's 2nd goal. Very interesting additions to the offense for Martin St-Louis's men.
In net,
Jakub Dobes was very effective, stopping 30 of the 31 shots directed at him.
Despite this victory, if the Canadiens want to make the playoffs and win at least one round, GM Kent Hughes will have to find a way to acquire a solid 2nd-line center.
It's no secret in Montreal, and it's been talked about all summer. Kent Hughes must find a way to bring in a quality 2nd center.
Ideally, a player who will help in the development of young
Ivan Demidov.
For Simon Boisvert, defenseman Kaiden Guhle should serve as trade currency.
Here's a quote from "Snake" that sparked a lot of discussion:
"I get the feeling that it's only Montreal fans and media who think he's great."
- Simon Snake Boisvert
"We spoke to several NHL executives who believe that Kaiden Guhle's contract is an absolute steal at $5.5M for the next 6 seasons.
It's certainly not just the media and the fans who are in love with.."
- Marco D'Amico
With the salary cap expected to rise in the coming years, Kaiden Guhle's 6-year, $5.5M contract will truly be a bargain.
As long, of course, as he spends more time on the ice than in the infirmary.
