David Reinbacher is one of the Montreal Canadiens' most promising young defensemen, destined for a bright future in the NHL.
In 2023, Kent Hughes and the Canadiens' management selected defenseman David Reinbacher in the first round, 5th overall, at the NHL Draft.
Born in Hohenems, a town in the Vorarlberg region of western Austria, he is an extremely talented young player who played for Kloten HC from 2021 to 2024.
The 20-year-old defenseman suited up for the Laval Rocket in 23 games, including 13 playoff matches, in the 2024-25 season. Unfortunately, he suffered a significant injury that has delayed his development, and patience will be key in his case.
A Trade Proposal Involving David Reinbacher and Kirby Dach Is Not Sitting Well With Fans
On social media, a proposed trade involving David Reinbacher is generating tons of comments and upsetting many Montreal Canadiens fans.
Utah Mammoth Receive:
David Reinbacher (D)
Kirby Dach (F)
2026 1st Round Pick* (MTL)
*Top 15 protected (moves to 2027)
Montreal Canadiens Receive:
Nick Schmaltz (F)
2026 2nd Round Pick (UTA)
The Austrian defenseman would be sent to Utah along with forward Kirby Dach and a 2026 first-round pick, which would come with top-15 protection.
In return, Kent Hughes would acquire center Nick Schmaltz. At 29 years old, Schmaltz has played for both the Arizona Coyotes and the Chicago Blackhawks.
He's set to enter his 10th NHL season in 2025-26, and his current contract, which pays him $5,850,000 annually, will expire next summer. He would arrive in Quebec along with a 2026 second-round pick.
This proposal is far from unanimous, and if you ask us, there's no way Kent Hughes would accept such an offer. Would you?
