New reports suggest the NHL salary cap could skyrocket-a shift that might reshape the future of major teams like the Canadiens and boost their competitiveness.

This news comes from a report released by the reputable Marco D'Amico.
Indeed, according to his sources, he mentions that the cap could rise from 95 million (at the moment) to nearly 170 million over the next few years.
"Sources believe the salary cap could almost double over the next 9 years (going from $95M to possibly $170M)" - Marco D'Amico.
Honestly, I have to say this idea makes me dream. My first reaction is that the NHL is a healthy business.
Also, for several years now, the salary cap has forced decisions that have broken up promising teams. We've seen this with the Habs in the past.
We've seen so many cores dismantled because of just a few million too much.
With this kind of potential increase, we could finally see teams build continuity without being forced to sacrifice key players.

A doubled salary cap could benefit the Montreal Canadiens

For a team like the Montreal Canadiens, this scenario would be huge. Of course, players' contracts would follow this cap, but I believe that before the market fully adjusts, there will be opportunities for certain teams to take advantage.
With the revenues generated by such a powerful market, the Habs would have the means to fully benefit from this flexibility.
We could imagine a solid core around players like Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Ivan Demidov, Lane Hutson and more!
To me, this would be a real breath of fresh air for the National League.
Finally, let's be honest: seeing a team like the Tricolore, which already has an impressive pool of young players, able to keep its talent and even add major pieces, makes you want to believe that the Stanley Cup is possible in the near future.
