At only 18 years old, Alexander Zharovsky continues to surprise everyone in Russia with a start to the season that exceeds all expectations.
Indeed, since the beginning of the season, another name has been drawing a lot of attention... that of Alexander Zharovsky.
And now he has just received a very special honor in Russia.
Alexander Zharovsky Named KHL Rookie of the Week After an Exceptional Start to the Season
According to a post shared by HabsOnReddit, Zharovsky has just been voted "Rookie of the Week" in the KHL - a first major recognition for the Canadiens prospect.
"Congrats to Habs prospect Alexander Zharovsky on being named the KHL Rookie of the Week"
- HabsOnReddit
It's an impressive accomplishment when you consider that he's already playing against men at just 18 years old.
Since the start of the season, he has collected nine points in 11 games, including four goals and five assists.
"The Hockey IQ and knowing where to be/go in the o-zone really sticks out when it comes to Zharovsky." said Marco D'Amico.
The 6-foot-1 forward also scored a crucial power-play goal on Saturday to force overtime in a 2-1 win over Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk.
I find his development fascinating, especially for a player drafted in the second round.
I truly believe that if he continues to progress at this pace, he could quickly establish himself as a future offensive asset for the Canadiens.
Moreover, several observers believe he could even surpass
Ivan Demidov's production in the KHL this season.
And judging by what he's already accomplishing at 18, he's seriously starting to look like a potential draft steal by Kent Hughes.
Let's also remember that several rumors were spreading suggesting Zharovsky might soon leave Russia to come join the Canadiens in North America. However, his agent, Dan Milstein,
quickly shut those down.
