It's the story that, by far, created the most buzz this summer in Montreal.
We now know the basis of the trade proposed by GM Pat Verbeek, which was allegedly refused by the Montreal Canadiens.
While we learned yesterday, via journalist Marco D'Amico, that Kent Hughes was keeping an eye on the file but had little hope of submitting the best offer, today we learn, through his colleague Jimmy Murphy, the price that Kent Hughes reportedly refused to pay.
A price that many fans would have paid without hesitation..
Kent Hughes reportedly refused to give up these two players in a trade for Mason McTavish
According to Jimmy Murphy, Pat Verbeek allegedly demanded
David Reinbacher and
Kirby Dach from the Canadiens' GM in order to acquire McTavish.
From what we understand, this demand from Verbeek went well beyond the price Kent Hughes was willing to pay to acquire the center.
The Canadiens therefore appear, for the moment, to be out of the Mason McTavish derby, as he reportedly still refuses to attend Ducks camp as long as his contract dispute continues.
Let's bet a little $2 that the Canadiens will start the season with the roster they currently have on hand and will try to improve later in the season, when other teams abandon their hopes of making the playoffs.
