It's very clear that Patrik Laine has been a major topic of discussion since his arrival in Montreal - and certainly not always for the right reasons.
However, this time, a well-known journalist decided to correct some perceptions that he feels are very unfair.
Recently, Laine was also criticized for not celebrating Caufield's game tying goal.
"That's a photo of the Canadiens' bench after
Cole Caufield's tying goal vs Nashville in the third period.
You can see the joy on every player's face well, on every player's face except one (Laine)"
- Max Truman
Anthony Martineau shares the positive impact of Patrik Laine in the Montreal Canadiens locker room
"How can you be effective on the ice against the best with a sprained knee?
How can you be effective on the ice when you're a shooter with a fractured finger?
How can you be effective on the ice when you have a sports hernia in your abdominal?
It's not true that Patrik Laine is a bad person; it's not true that he doesn't care about the team. He even took
Oliver Kapanen under his wing at the start of the season."
- Anthony Martineau
That's what Martineau told Tony Marinaro, visibly a bit irritated by the falsehoods being spread about Laine.
According to the journalist, the player's impact goes far beyond what fans see on the ice.
Here's the full video - it's worth watching:
Oliver Kapanen even said: "It's incredible the impact Patrik Laine has had on my offensive game. He took the time to explain the details to me, and it meant a lot."
Later, Anthony Martineau also mentioned that Laine played a key role in helping
Ivan Demidov integrate, making him feel comfortable from the moment he arrived in Montreal.
"Laine is the one who made Demidov feel at ease this summer - they became close." - Martineau
But that's not all. Even in tough moments, he remains a quiet leader.
"During intense games, he cracks jokes on the bench to help the younger guys. He's a good guy, Patrik. And he was always one of the first on the ice during practices." Martineau added.
In my opinion, I find this testimony very revealing, and I was really glad to hear it.
I think too often, players are judged without people seeing the human being behind the helmet.
We wish Laine a swift recovery.
